Bikini vs. Brazilian Laser Hair Removal: Know the Difference

They mainly differ in how much of the area is treated.

A bikini treatment focuses on hair outside the swimsuit or underwear line. At Savou, a full Brazilian can include the front pubic area, labia, perineum, and between the buttocks.

You can still leave a strip, triangle, or another amount of hair in front if you prefer. For intimate areas, Brazilian laser hair removal allows broader, customizable coverage.

Bikini Line vs. Full Brazilian at a Glance

The main difference is coverage — both can be customized to what you want treated.

What Is the Difference Between Bikini and Brazilian?

Bikini laser hair removal treats the outer edges where hair may show around underwear or swimwear. Brazilian laser hair removal treats a much larger part of the intimate area.

If you only want cleaner edges, bikini coverage may be enough. If you want most or all of the hair across the front and back reduced, a Brazilian is the closer match.

A Brazilian does not have to mean removing everything — you can leave a strip, triangle, or another shape in front.

What Does a Full Brazilian Include?

At Savou, a full Brazilian can include the front pubic area, labia, perineum, and the area between the buttocks. You can remove hair across the full area or leave some in front.

If you have a specific boundary in mind, describe it before treatment so you and your provider are clear about the exact coverage.

Can You Leave a Strip or Triangle?

Yes. It is best to decide on the shape before treatment begins, since successfully treated hair may not grow back in the same pattern later.

Before treatment, your provider should confirm exactly which areas you want treated and which you want left alone. You can ask about positioning, draping, or privacy at any point.

Which Laser Does Savou Use?

Savou uses the FDA-cleared Candela GentleMax Pro. The system includes a 755 nm alexandrite wavelength and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength, giving the provider options for different skin and hair characteristics, plus cryogen cooling before each pulse.

Brazilian Laser for Dark Skin

Brazilian laser hair removal can be performed on darker skin when the wavelength and settings are appropriate. Savou uses the 1064 nm Nd:YAG option for deeper skin tones. Skin tone is only one part of planning — hair thickness and color, medications, recent tanning, and skin condition also matter.

Can Laser Help With Bikini-Line Ingrown Hairs?

It may help reduce one common trigger by decreasing coarse hair and the need for frequent close shaving.

Not every bump in the bikini area is an ingrown hair, though. Painful, draining, persistent, or spreading bumps should be assessed before laser treatment.

Before Your Appointment

  • Shave the area about 24 hours beforehand.
  • Avoid tanning and excessive sun for at least two weeks.
  • Do not wax or pluck.
  • Pause retinoids, glycolic acid, and exfoliating products as directed.
  • Tell your provider about medications, recent tanning, or active irritation.

After the Session

Savou recommends avoiding hot showers, saunas, and tight clothing for at least a day. Swimming and direct sun should be avoided for 48 hours, with shaving postponed for at least three days. Temporary redness or swelling can occur during the first 12 to 24 hours.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

At Savou, we typically recommend six to eight sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart. The exact number varies with hair density, thickness, hormones, skin tone, and individual response. Laser is best understood as long-term hair reduction rather than permanent removal.

Does It Hurt? What Does It Cost?

Some parts of a Brazilian can feel more sensitive than others; the GentleMax Pro’s cryogen cooling cools the skin before each pulse. Pricing depends on the treatment area, coverage, and number of sessions, and a Brazilian may be priced differently because it covers a larger area. Savou can provide current pricing once you confirm the coverage you want.

Bikini vs. Brazilian Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Can I Get Brazilian Laser While I’m on My Period?

Yes, although the area may feel more sensitive for some people during their period. If you have any concerns about comfort or hygiene, contact Savou before your appointment.

Can PCOS or Hormonal Changes Affect Results?

Yes. Laser can reduce existing hair, but it does not treat the hormonal changes that may cause new growth. PCOS and other hormonal factors can affect regrowth and may mean occasional maintenance is needed, which is why laser is considered long-term hair reduction.

Can I Have Sex After Brazilian Laser Hair Removal?

It is best to wait until any redness, warmth, or tenderness has settled. Friction, heat, and sweat can irritate recently treated skin, so follow the aftercare instructions and give the area more time if it still feels sensitive.

Can I Switch From Bikini to Brazilian Partway Through?

Yes, in many cases. Tell your provider before your next appointment because the additional areas will be starting treatment later, and your session plan or pricing may change.

What If I Become Pregnant During My Laser Series?

Tell Savou before your next appointment and pause treatment. Elective laser hair removal is generally postponed during pregnancy because safety data are limited and pregnancy can change both skin pigmentation and hair growth.

Can I Use Numbing Cream Before Treatment?

Do not apply numbing cream unless your provider has approved it first. We use the GentleMax Pro with cryogen cooling before each pulse. If sensitivity is a concern, ask what can safely be used on your skin before treatment.

Can Bikini or Brazilian Laser Affect Fertility?

There is no evidence that bikini or Brazilian laser hair removal causes infertility. The laser targets pigment in hair follicles within the skin, not the reproductive organs. It is generally postponed during pregnancy for separate safety reasons.

Planning Around Sun and Beach Days

If you are planning laser hair removal around beach days or travel, summer treatment timing is worth considering, because recent sun exposure can affect when treatment is appropriate.

Choose the Coverage That Fits You

You do not have to remove more hair than you want. Bikini laser may be enough to clean up the outer edges, while a Brazilian covers a much larger intimate area. At Savou, the treatment area can be adjusted to your preference, including leaving some hair in front.
